Abstract

The mobile TLC industry continues the great expansion experienced throughout the last decade, confirming the evolution from a minority, high cost application into a mainstream TLC service

  • According to a recent market analysis, the worldwide cellular will continue to grow rapidly through out the present decade:

    34 million cellular subscribers at the end 1993 (around 7 million in Europe at the end July 1993) and over 118 million by 1999, when 45 million will be on digital cellular with a major share for GSM (more than 50%)

  • In Italy the mobile subscribers have grown from 6.400 in 1985 to about 1.2 million by 1993

  • The market for cellular terminals will reach by 1999 a value of 10 billion $ corresponding to 35.2 million units sold in that year
