Abstract

Organizational use of Information Technology (IT) has evolved through several distinct stages over the last 30 years. Initially there was a heavy focus towards operational improvements centred around reduced costs, followed by a tactical emphasis upon achieving improved effectiveness, particularly for the individual. More recently, interest in IT has been dominated by the strategic contribution it can make towards gaining competitive advantage.
