Abstract
The notion of “ownership” is prevalent in many social, economic, and political activities. In this paper, we show that an “ownership” semantic relationship can be a powerful addition to the repertoire of object-oriented database (OODB) modeling primitives. The motivation for such a relationship is provided by example OODB schemata. Using these schemata and some (informal) legal definitions, the varied semantics of ownership are identified A formal ownership relationship is presented as an extension to an OODB data model.
