Abstract

Healthcare administrators face a variety of demands such as program planning, resource management, financial management, organizational reporting, and quality improvements. Consequently, administrators have a need for accurate, timely information to support decision-making, as well as tools to support the communication of such decisions. Information and data are considered corporate assets, in that they provide the foundation for informed decisions. This chapter covers both management information systems – those solutions that collect, synthesize and present information and data to support decision making, and the office automation systems which assist administrators communicate their decisions.
