Multimodality Imaging for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement

Abstract

Recent guidelines and reviews of echocardiographic imaging during transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) have emphasized the clinical utility of this modality for intra-procedural guidance and risk assessment [1, 2]. At our institution, we currently perform all TAVR procedures under general anesthesia with a transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) probe in place. At this time, we feel this is a vital safeguard for to mitigate intra-procedural and postimplantation complications. Technical advances, such as miniaturization of TEE probes and 3D imaging with intracardiac probes, may change the intra-procedural imaging protocols in the future.
