Abstract
The use of robots and other automated devices to pick and pack items were developed to support the logistics and retail industries and have been commonplace in these sectors for many years. However, the uptake of these technologies to support pharmacy services has been a fairly recent development. The drivers for this have been increasing dispensing workloads over the last 20 years, the need to achieve cost-efficiencies in the health service and an increased emphasis on patient safety in recent years.
