Abstract
Enterovesical fistulae (EVF) and the pathognomonic features of pneumaturia, faecaluria and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI) were first described by Cripps in 1888 [1]. Defined is “an abnormal communication between the intestine and the bladder” [2], EVF represent a rare but devastating complication of advanced inflammatory and malignant disease or iatrogenic or traumatic injuries. Pneumaturia is the passage of air per urethram at the time of voiding and is the classic symptom of an underlying enterovesical fistula. Diagnosis often requires imaging/endoscopy of both the urinary and gastro-intestinal tracts.
