Abstract

The brain is particularly vulnerable in children with homozygous sickle cell disease (SCD), and an important aim of management is the prevention of cognitive as well as physical disability due to cerebral damage. Patients who are at risk of neurological complications are not necessarily those who experience frequent painful crises.
