Abstract

The full blood count, in particular haemoglobin level and red cell indices, the blood film and reticulocytes are all important in the diagnosis and management of patients with SCD. Testing with haemoglobin analysis by high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) or similar techinques is required for diagnostic confirmation.
