Abstract
You are consulted about preparation for open lung biopsy in a 40-year-old woman with sickle cell disease (HbSS). Her red cell phenotype is O, D+, C+, c+, E−, e+, K−k+, Fy(a−b−), Jk(a+b+), M−N+, S−s+. Hospital records show that the following antibodies were previously detected: anti-Fy3; anti-E; anti-Jsa; anti-M; anti-S, all active at 37°C. On the day of admission, a LISS-IAT panel detected anti-Fy3 and anti-S; weak anti-E was detected after papain treatment. Patient’s hemoglobin is 7.5 g/dl; Hemoglobin S (HbS) 73%; platelets 313 × 109/l; INR 1.1; APTR 0.98.
