Abstract

The experimental laboratory system is an improvement of the Siemens “Teaching and Training Demonstration Model for Variable Speed Drive” (Siemens, 1977). The plant to be controlled consists of a DC-motor fed by a single-phase fully-controlled dual-converter. Variations of the moment of inertia, field excitation and load torque are easily accomplished with potentiometers or switches. A current transducer, a speed transducer, as well as voltage, current, speed and torque measurement instruments are available. Several connection jacks make the observation of various internal signals possible. An interface unit allows the connection of the motor to a microcomputer, where a digital controller can be programmed. An analog controller is also available. Control keys on an operating console make the substitution between analog and digital controllers an easy task. This laboratory system will be described in the following sections. The model parameters will also be presented.
