Abstract

As the aim of this book is to discuss the development of practical KBS, it is only sensible to include a chapter on evaluation. After all, without effective evaluation it is highly improbable that the KBS developed will be of use in the real world. Therefore, this chapter aims to:
  • • Discuss practical KBS evaluation: its relevance, the difficulties with it and why it is important.

  • •Discuss the ways in which systems have been evaluated in the past and to suggest ways of improving this process.

  • •Suggest new approaches to practical system evaluation.
