Abstract

Design has increasingly become a cooperative endeavour carried out by multiple agents with diverse kinds of expertise. The design of a car, for example, requires experts on potential markets, ease of manufacturability, safety regulations, available means for shipping vehicles and so on. Many companies are currently studying or implementing approaches to facilitate cooperative design using so-called “concurrent engineering” techniques (Perry 1990).
