  • Chapter
CSCW in Practice: an Introduction and Case Studies

Part of the book series: Computer Supported Cooperative Work ((CSCW))

Abstract

This chapter starts with a summary of work undertaken by Seward (1987) on business trends. This work is first related to a realistic view of the nature and organization of many large commercial and industrial companies. The target user population of particular interest is middle and senior management. The Pod, which provides a unique work environment aimed at providing support to a wide range of managerial groups, is then described. Just how the Pod meets the needs of its managerial users is discussed. The data supporting the claims made for the Pod’s success are based on interview and questionnaire data gathered from commercial use of the Pod.
