Abstract

The wrist includes the radiocarpal, inferior radioulnar and intercarpal joints as well as the contents of the extensor and flexor compartments at this level. The wrist joint is frequently the keystone in reconstructive surgery of the hand and provides a sound base upon which satisfactory finger function depends. Its influence on more distal structures may be direct by disturbance of the tendons passing over it or indirect by inducing deformities compensatory to its own malalignment.
