Abstract

Since neither the extent and duration of bleeding nor the presence or absence of lower abdominal pain in the first trimester are reliable indicators of pregnancy outcome (Stabile 1988), attention has turned to biophysical and biochemical means of evaluating early human pregnancy. This chapter will describe the role of biophysical tools such as transabdominal ultrasound (TAS), transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) and doppler ultrasound in answering the following questions: am I pregnant? is my pregnancy normal? when is my baby due? will I miscarry? is my baby normal?
