Abstract
We are all sad when a child is hurt and damaged for whatever reason but it is particularly painful if we, who were trying to care for the child, are thought to be at fault. Legal conflicts about a damaged child are distressing whatever the rights and wrong of the issues. When we are involved in such conflicts it is important that we remember that it is the child who is at the disadvantage and it is his or her caring family who have the burden of care. Whilst we may sympathise with the family, it is difficult for a stranger to appreciate the full weight of the burden that they carry.
