Hydroxyapatite Crystals in Bone Ingrowth and Comparison of Autografts and Allographs: Preliminary Report

Abstract

A study was made to assess the efficacy of tri-calcium phosphate hydroxyapatite crystals in a primary canine arthroplasty using a cement-less device with voids between it and its ingrowth pad or surface, and the bone. This led to a second study which evaluated the superiority of autograft over allograft as a concept. We looked at implanting an ingrowth arthroplasty without bone graft, with allograft and then with autograft in a canine model with failed cemented arthroplasty.
