Inappropriate HLA Molecule Expression in Epithelial Cells: Relevance for Human Autoimmunity

  • Chapter
Book cover The Role of Micro-organisms in Non-infectious Diseases

Part of the book series: Argenteuil Symposia ((ARGENTEUIL))

Abstract

The central dogma of immunology, originally postulated by Paul Ehrlich, is based on the assumption that the immune system does not normally react to “self”. Consequently, autoimmunity represents the state in which the natural tolerance to self tissue and cell components terminates.
