Problems Arising from an Inadequate Exposure
The socket should be fully covered and supported within the acetabulum; the intramedullary portion of the stem, not the femoral neck, decides the exposure of the femur.
There is little doubt that total hip arthroplasty can be performed successfully utilizing any of the common exposures. What is less obvious is that only some of them allow consistently good access, more so in difficult primary or revision cases.
