Abstract

Several European countries are developing wide-spread optical fibre infrastructures combined with broadband transmission, switching and access techniques. Further developments are concerned with modular transit systems for the interconnection of local, metropolitan and wide area networks. Broadband-ISDN and multifunctional endsystems will support innovative applications in an Open Service Environment.
