Abstract
These are the most important part of the examination and a poor performance in this section is unlikely to be retrieved by anything other than exceptional performances in the others, and usually not even then. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a sound and thorough approach to examining histological material. However, no one is expecting perfect answers to all of the slides, as this would be highly unusual in the examination situation. It is therefore very difficult to convey any consensus opinion on the standards required, so the following discussion attempts to provide some guidelines on the way to approach the answers, which may reflect the attitude of a competent histopathologist.
