Abstract

The Fontan operation for tricuspid atresia was first performed in 1968 (Fontan and Baudet 1971; Fontan et al. 1971). Several technical modifications of the procedure were developed and described (Kreutzer et al. 1973; Yacoub and Radley-Smith 1977; Björk et al. 1979; Doty et al. 1981; Fontan et al. 1983; Puga et al. 1987; de Leval et al. 1988).
