Endocrine and Metabolic Effects of Drugs and Hormonal/Endocrine Manipulation of Non-endocrine Diseases

  • Chapter
Book cover Metabolic and Endocrine Problems in the Elderly

Abstract

A wide range of drugs has an effect on the function of endocrine glands, may simulate or mask the effect of hormones, or may confound the interpretation of hormone assays. The problem is further complicated in the elderly by the fact that most patients present to the surgery, out-patient clinic or ward on at least one drug, and in many instances, a multiplicity of preparations.
