Abstract
An attempt will be made in this chapter to set out a balanced and factual account of some of the medical and scientific and socio-cultural issues which are central to the charges made against Nestlé and other companies in relation to their marketing and other practices, especially in developing countries. It is not its purpose to justify those activities of Industry which may have been mistaken in the past, but it will seek to point out the errors, mainly of oversimplification, in the tactics of Industry’s critics when recruiting the sympathies of ordinary, concerned and well-intentioned citizens to their crusade.
