Linton’s Operation and Modifications of the Open Techniques

  • Chapter
Atlas of Endoscopic Perforator Vein Surgery

Abstract

In his Atlas of vascular surgery, Linton wrote, “the post-thrombotic syndrome of the lower leg with ulceration is a condition which has plagued the human race for many centuries.”1 Linton’s wisdom and thorough knowledge of chronic venous insufficiency was exemplified further as he said, “it is of extreme importance to understand that this condition is a chronic disease. Furthermore, it is not possible to restore the limb to its normal pre-thrombotic state because of the irreparable damage to the valves of the deep, communicating, and superficial system of veins. On the other hand, it is possible to cure the chronic ulcer for which the patient comes to the surgeon.”
