Abstract

In developing and using any computer system, but particularly a safety critical system, significant legal risks are raised in addition to commercial and technical risks. This paper analyses risk in safety critical systems within a legal context, indicates some of the areas of liability which may arise at law, and introduces some formal approaches to managing that risk.
