Abstract

The essence of the biopsy report is communication. It is the medium through which the pathologist routinely communicates to the physician or surgeon. It is important to ensure that it is not the weakest link in the biopsy procedure; there would be little point in taking the biopsy, safely transmitting it to the laboratory, having sections cut by expert histotechnologists, and making an accurate diagnosis, if the final opinion on the biopsy was eventually lost in an incomprehensible mass of tangled verbiage.
