Abstract
Cancer develops by the emancipation of a single cell from host control of growth. Growth has two components, proliferation and differentiation. Fetal organogenesis and wound repair are both obviously controlled according to a pattern. During embryogenesis and growth to adulthood the number of cells increases enormously. In maturity, cells are produced to replace those dying or destroyed.
