Part of the book series: Clinical Practice in Urology ((PRACTICE UROLOG))

Abstract

The implantation of a paired penile prosthesis into impotent men is a simple procedure, usually without serious complications, and can greatly improve the quality of life for both the patient and his partner. The success of these operations is not disputed but depends upon the correct selection of patients who have a realistic expectation for the procedure. The surgery itself is straightforward but should be carried out with a minimum of tissue trauma in order to lessen the risk of infection. The overall success rate is 90% but in some groups of patients it will be much higher.
