Abstract
Fine needle aspiration biopsy has been practised for many years and has been used to assess both neoplastic and inflammatory disease processes in a number of organs (e.g. breast, lymph nodes, thyroid, salivary glands and lungs). During the 1960s several Swedish authors presented reports that substantiated the diagnostic possibilities of this method.
