Abstract
Thirty-six patients, all with chronic obstructive or restrictive pulmonary disease and living at home with supplemental oxygen, were tested for oxygen saturation levels with a portable oximeter. Our aim was to determine whether or not routine oximetry could be used to improve the quality of home care provided for patients suffering from chronic hypoxaemia by the ability to adjust their oxygen flow rates and to make them aware of the need to adjust their home treatment when their oxygen saturation levels were unsatisfactory.
