Abstract
A monograph on the obstructive and allied disorders of the lower urinary tract first requires the establishment of a descriptive framework so as to present an orderly and comprehensive clinical account of the disease spectrum. Unfortunately, there are a number of ways, each equally valid, of defining and describing the nature of ‘obstruction’ (see p. 198), and no single classification or framework adequately covers all aspects of the dysfunctional states.
