Special Investigations

  • Chapter
Coloproctology

Abstract

Investigations must be justifiable and should not be requested before a full rectal examination that includes sigmoidoscopy. It is important to explain to the patient the reasons for and nature of further investigations to avoid confusion, anxiety and mistrust. The results of any investigations should always be considered in the light of clinical findings. A test may be repeated to clarify an equivocal result.
