Abstract

With the development of selective angiography and flexible endoscopy vascular malformations are now recognised to be an important cause of large bowel haemorrhage. Their prevalence is not known since the diagnosis is made only after investigation of bleeding. It seems reasonable at the present time to divide them into congenital and acquired malformations. The former are rare, while the latter, generally known as angiodysplasia, appear to be fairly common.
