Abstract
Cysts of the adrenal gland are rare. To date about 250 individual examples have been reported and they usually pose greater problems to the radiologist and urologist than pathologist. Many are incidental findings. They occur in approximately 1 in 1500 unselected autopsies (0.06%) (Wahl 1951) with an equal frequency in the right and left glands. Cysts are bilateral in 10%–15% of cases and occur in women twice as often as men with a peak incidence between the third and fifth decades (Kearny and Mahony 1977) with fewer than 5% occurring in children (Van der Water and Fonkalsrud 1966).
