Abstract
Accurate information about the incidence of accidents from electrical equipment, or from fires and explosions in operating theatres is scanty, largely because of reluctance to publish from fear of litigation. Reports vary from an average of one death per year in the United Kingdom to 1200 in the United States. The most accurate account emanates from Australia, where an official inquiry showed that over a period of 15 years, 164 fatalities had occurred.
