Abstract
The primary objective of setting up is to deliver the focused beam to the workpiece via an optical path of mirrors and lens(es) without distorting the purity of the beam by stray reflections off mirror mounts, etc. Once the beam is focused onto the workpiece in its purest possible state, it is then necessary to establish the focal position exactly and correctly locate this with respect to the material surface. The last step is to make sure the focused beam is aligned central to the nozzle and to set the cutting gas pressure and the cutting speed for the particular laser power—workpiece combination.
