Abstract
It is a generally accepted fact that with the possible exception of throw away prototypes software systems have a long life time. This implies that software systems have to survive many change requests. Thus the design process from very early on has to consider likely changes. The design for potential change is the key to the success of a software system. This means that the investment in a software product is justified only if at least potential changes are considered and reflected in the design i.e. the software architecture of a software system (Ghezzi, Jazayeri & Mandrioli 1992).
