Abstract
When observing the projected image of the Sun it is essential to exclude extraneous light in order to increase the contrast. When I first started regular solar work in 1969, I used a projection box attached to the eyepiece of a 75 mm (3 in) refractor. I obtained good results in favourable weather conditions but accurate positional work was impossible when the box was shaken by strong winds.
