Abstract

As a result of the software crisis methodologies for the design of large software systems were developed. At first the emphases was on business applications. DeMacro [1] introduced symbolic tools to model data flows, stores and transformations, which were worked out by Yourdon [13, 14], Gane and Sarson [3] and Page-Jones [9] for administrative systems. Later on design methodologies for real-time systems were developed by Ward and Mellor [10], based on Yourdons work.
