Endoscopic Anatomy

Abstract

Anatomy is often a matter of perspective, and this truism is apt as never before when applied to the nose and paranasal sinuses. Macroscopic descriptions found in most standard textbooks often do not correlate to the straight or angled endoscopic view the surgeon has to rely on when traversing these landscapes. He must develop a feel for volume as he looks at area, and must be able to build up a three-dimensional map allowing him to know exactly where he is, and what structures are closely related. We present the anatomy of this complex region as a series of building blocks, to be put together and further enhanced by CT scanning. Extensive photographic documentation of endocospic anatomy and pathological findings is to be found in chapter 5.
