Abstract

Telepoint in Asia developed in stark contrast to Europe — whilst networks languished with slow growth or even closure in Europe, in Asia in the early 1990s new networks opened and flourished. In the mid-1990s, new competitive pressures from the adjacent cellular market began to squeeze telepoint in Hong Kong, with severe erosion of the customer base during 1995 leading to a first announcement of network closures in March 1996.
