Abstract
This chapter explores the digital cordless telephony market, beginning by examining how the digital cordless telephony market has been, and continues to be, influenced by the cellular radio market, providing a context in the mobile communications marketplace. It then briefly describes the historical development of digital cordless in Europe, North America and Asia and considers the global aspects of digital cordless — common requirements, yet different standards. It discusses market positioning of cordless products and how perceptions in this area have changed since the start of the 1990s, charting the reasons for these changes.
