Abstract

The advanced multimedia terminals of future are an interesting area of technology, which may be heading towards a market explosion similar to that of the mobile phone market. This perspective on the research and market trends in the field focuses on Last Mile broadband (wireless) terminals. However, I am not maintaining that there will be a single terminal type dominating the market in the future, but rather a large blend of diverse terminal platforms and standards will be co-existing. The most promising approach to coping with the increasing market diversity can be found in enhancing the adaptivity of the software in the terminals.
