Abstract

Acute pancreatitis is a disease with a significant mortality and has been reported as the principal diagnosis in 2% of all admissions with abdominal pain to hospitals in the UK (1). The management of acute pancreatitis involves a multi-disciplinary approach, and requires a considerable investment of time and expertise. It can at times test the skill and patience of medical and paramedical staff, as well as consuming considerable hospital resources.
