Abstract
Caffeine in tea and coffee is probably the world’s most heavily used drug, but it is followed by nicotine and alcohol. If one looks at dependence instead of prevalence, nicotine may addict more users than any other drug. The lifetime dependency on nicotine is approximately 24% in China and 14% in the United States. Approximately 75% of the smokers in the western world can be classified as dependent.
