A long-standing relationship between Smoke Free Birmingham, a tobacco control alliance of the Health Authority, the City Council and others, and the University of Central England had previously led to the production of posters and other resources at low cost by graphic design students. This collaboration had included designs for a 12-month street poster campaign on a variety of health topics: food hygiene posters for Chinese caterers, pest control leaflets and other materials. Smoking-related products included designs for posters advertising a major scientific exhibit, temporary tattoos, interactive shopping centre displays for No Smoking Day and many others.
