Abstract
Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a concept signifying that the fetus has not achieved its optimal growth. There are several ways in which fetal growth may be inhibited, and these are discussed in the following chapters. Despite the diversity of causes of IUGR, they all have in common the fact that the IUGR baby would have been bigger were it not for suboptimal genetic and or environmental factors.
