Abstract
The paper emphasizes the use of real data for directly estimating the parameters of a reduced order digital controller using closed loop type identification algorithms. The asymptotic properties of the resulting reduced order controllers show that the critical performances of the nominal closed loop system are preserved and furthermore the robustness of the reduced controller is enhanced with respect to modeling errors. The paper also recalls that identification in closed loop may provide better plant models in view of their use for controller reduction. Simulation and experimental results on an active suspension illustrate the performances of controller reduction techniques using real data.
